FLIPPA BALL PROPOSAL

INTRODUCTION

 

Recreation Rotorua in conjunction with Waterpolo Rotorua is running the Term One 2012 Flippa Ball season. This competition gives primary school students in Rotorua the opportunity to experience modified Waterpolo skills and be physically active, while having fun.

DAY:             Wednesday 15th February – 4th April 2012
                      Thursday 16th February – 5th April 2012

FINALS DATE YET TO BE CONFIRMED

TIME:               3:40pm, 4:00pm, 4:20pm, 4:40pm, 5:10pm (Wednesday and Thursday competition)

COSTS:            $130.00 per Team         
                           Invoices will be sent out to schools and will need to be paid before the 20th February 2012

POOL DEPTH:  1.066 metres

Please note. Floatation devices are permitted in the junior division only – these will not be supplied by the Rotorua Aquatic Centre.

Waterpolo Rotorua will supply player’s caps and referees.

GENERAL INFORMATION

 

Venue:                                      

  1. Rotorua Aquatic Centre Outdoor 50m pool. (1.066m deep).
  2. Playing field size 15m x 7.5m.
  3. Players will have access to lane 8 before, during, and after the games however conduct in this lane will be monitored by the Rotorua Aquatic Centre staff.  Failure to comply with the staffs wishes may result in that team member being asked to exit the pool. Please ensure that all children know NOT to sit or rest on the lane ropes.

Days

  • Wednesday – Juniors Years 3-4
  • Thursday – Seniors Years 5-6

Time

  • First game starts at 3.40pm and last game ends at approximately  5.30pm                                    

Length of game

  • Two – seven minute halves.
  • One minute break at half time.
  • Teams must be ready to play, there is only a one minute change over between games

Cost

  • $130.00 per team
  • Must be paid by 20th February 2012

Players per team

  • Five (5) on the field at any one time, with up to three subs. This gives all the children a fair amount of playing time
  • It is compulsory for every team to have at least two girls and one must be on the court at all times during games.                                               

Entry

  • Entry of Teams is due by Friday 10th February 2012.  Entry of teams may occur prior to this date.
  • Recreation Rotorua reserves the right to close competition entry as soon as all spaces are filled. The date supplied is a deadline, should the spaces fill before the deadline, all schools will be notified via email
  • Names of players will be required so that they can be entered onto a log sheet.

 

Max. Teams per School

  • Senior Division Competition – 3 teams maximum if you have more than three teams they will automatically be put in to a waitlist file for any spaces that are not filled

Format

  • There will be two confirmed Divisions.  Senior Division (Thursday) and Junior Division (Wednesday),
  • Senior One will consist of 24 teams put into 4 pools of 6 teams.  The top two teams from each pool will be moved on to the Championship round.
  • Junior will consist of 18 teams (this may change due to demand).  The top two in each pool will move into Championship round.

Weather

  • Games will be played in all weather except hail and/or lightning.

Age Groups

  • Years 3 and 4 = Junior
  • Years 5 and 6 = Senior

NOTE:

  • Please ensure all PARENTS know NOT to park illegally at the Aquatic Centre or they will be issued a Parking Fine. (That includes parking on the grass)  
  • All Schools with other commitments (camps etc.) MUST inform Recreation Rotorua with at least 14 days notice, so we can inform opposition teams not to attend. In this situation the team pulling out will default their points to the team prepared to play.
  • We will be using the lane space on the Grandstand side of the 50m Pool.  Entry is through the Brown Gate (Swim Rotorua Clubrooms) unless you have other children swimming, this must be paid at Reception.                                                         

                                                           
A reply from your school is needed no later than Friday 10th February 2012 confirming entry of team(s).  This is to ensure your school is invoiced for the correct number of teams.  . Flippa Ball Guide Lines

The rules for Mini Water Polo are relatively simple. The following are the general guidelines to give you an indication of what is expected.

1.     5 players in the water at any one time.  The other 3 players can be substitute anytime during the same as per rules.

2.    Teams swap ends at half time.

3.    Water polo caps must be worn and will be provided by the Waterpolo Rotorua

4.    Goggles and watches not to be worn.

Flippa Ball Rules

1.     Players are allowed to swim or wade to get into position but are not allowed to walk while holding the ball. For those players who can         swim, they can dribble the ball in front of them.

2.    Players must catch and throw the ball with one hand only. The exception to the rule is that the goalkeeper may catch and throw with            both hands.

3.    No player may hold the ball for longer than five seconds without passing it or playing it on to the water.

4.    No player may tackle another player when in possession of the ball or not

5.     Player must not hold the ball under water while being tackled

6.    Ball must fully cross goal line in the goal before a goal is scored.

7.    If a player takes the ball into their own goal, a goal is given for the opposing team.  Shots cannot be taken outside the 4m, yellow cone.

8.    To receive a pass a player must be outside the 2 metre line to receive the ball. Players cannot sit inside the 2m cone, and shoot a               goal, unless they took the ball in there themselves.

9.    Goalkeeper to be left alone once that player has possession, and may use two hands up to the 2 metre line

10.    Players can challenge for the ball, but this must be done in a fair manner, and no hitting of the head is allowed.

Discipline

1.    Overzealous play (Referees Discretion) will result in the offending Player/s being sent off the court and replaced by a substitute.
       Depending on severity of overzealous play, offending player/s may be suspended for a period of time.  This is up to the discretion
       of the Flippa Ball coordinator

2.    All decisions based on these rules are final there will be NO special treatment for any player regardless of sex or age, any coach or
       school co-ordinator with a problem regarding a decision should not take this up with the referees. Please voice your concerns
       to the Flippa Ball Co-ordinator and a decision will be made within 48 hours.

 

THE REFEREES DECISION IS FINAL

Rules of Defaults.

1.    To start a game a team will need a minimum of four players.

2.    A game can still start up to Three (3) minutes after the hooter has sounded to start the game.

3.    When the Three (3) minutes are completed, the team that was ready to compete will win by default.

 

Round Robin Scoring System

3 points for a win
1 points for a draw
0 points for a loss
0 points for default loss
3 points for default win

Finals Scoring.

Team with most goals at the end of normal times wins.
In the event of a draw the game will be settled on total goal difference.
Social Division will be Semi Finals and Finals only for top four (4) ranked teams.

Proposed Format

Senior Division – Four (4) pools of Six (6) Teams
Junior Division – Three (3) pools of Six Teams – subject to change (dependant on number of teams)

1st & 2nd ranked in each pool: Championship Division
3rd & 4th ranked in each pool: Shield Division
5th & 6th ranked in each pool: Plate Division
7th & 8th ranked in each pool: Bowl Division
