Our History

The Rotorua Aquatic Centre Appeal Committee was formed with a community base in the late 1960’s for the purpose of establishing an Olympic standard pool. Finance was raised via public subscription, funds from Rotorua City and County Councils, and a Golden Kiwi grant. The outdoor 50 metre (eight lane pool) was opened in 1975 and was the first stage of an overall proposed complex. Stage two was opened to the public on the 19th September 1988 and provides:

1. A general pool 32m x 20m x1.9 -2m deep including a bulk-head that can be moved to create a 25m pool. This pool provides for a wide
    range of activities.

2. A recreation pool which includes:

•  A learners area of 8m x 23m x0.8m
•  A general area, incorporating a beach area, with a depth of 0 – 0.7m
•  A toddlers area, incorporating a beach area with a depth of 0 – 0.2m

Stage Three (A million dollar upgrade and improvement) was opened to the public on the 8th December 2003 which added a fun and relaxing element to the Rotorua Aquatic Complex and included:

•  A Lazy River
•  A Splash Pad - Water Rainbow, Ground Geyser x 3, Fumbling Five,Donut Fountain, Water Cannon x2, Directional Water Jet x 6,
   Magic Touch Bollard)
•  A Indoor Spa Pool
•  Outdoor Spa Pool x 3 (Pink & White Terrace style)
